Maddie's first braids!

A few weeks ago I got ambitious and tried to braid my baby's hair. I sat her down with a bowl of cereal and actually got a pretty good braid on her! The sides were still too short so I just put them into a topsy tail/ twist. I love that her hair is finally starting to grow!

Beautiful Up Do

I snapped this one at the same fiesta as the last posts. I wasn't able to get a front view of this girls but as you can kind of see in the pics the bangs are braided back to the side and pulled into a pony tail with a wormy bun and curled on the bottom. Perfect for a prom or any other special occasion!

Ok, the internet is finally allowing me to upload pics! I just have to do it one at a time. Now when you are used to uploading 20+ pics in less than 5 minutes, I sure you feel my pain with this 20 minute wait per pic!

This is from the "end of the school year" festivities here in July. (the school year here is from the middle of August till July, with a 5 week summer break. (although they only go from 8 am to 12:30)

Here we have a traditional dance. The kids participating in the dances are the top performing kids in the school. Don't they just look so cute!?

You can kind of see here that the hair is all up into braided buns with a ribbon ties around it.

My husband's niece was in one of the dances as well. For her hair I did my flower girl do on top and curled the bottom.

Alive again!

Hey, just a quick note to say that we're still alive. We made it here in Mexico on July 1st and have been pretty busy, I have a few things to post soon, Where we are at we only have dial up internet available so I won't be posting as often but I hope at least once a week. I have so missed my blogs over the past 3 months!

Things are going good business wise here. We're still with the inlaws though because rentals are not that easy to find here.

Anyway, I'll be posting stuff soon!

Still alive!

Hey, I'm still alive! I've just been so super busy with everything that I just haven't had time for posting. I do have some pics that I'll try to get up later this week but don't count on it.

2 days left now till our huge international move! This time next week we should be about settled in and then I can hopefully start posting again!

We finally got our house rented out, just at the last minute. The rest of this week will be busy packing and cleaning and more packing! Then I have to decide what to take and what to leave! Soon the stress will be all over with though then I can relax and get back to things!

Keep watching, I have a few dos stuck in my head that should be great!

Disinfecting cleansing wipes

Ok, I know this blog is for hair stuff but I also have another passion, cleaning. Not just any cleaning though but "green cleaning". Since I switched to "green" I have desperately missed my disinfecting wipes. I would seriously go through one large container a week! Through my desperation to find a green wipe I decided that since I can't find one that's totally chemical free I'd make one!

Anyone that know me knows that I'm in a love affair with vinegar lately! There is seriously nothing that it can't do! From making cheap window cleaner, to cleaning blueberries stains in carpets! So I figured that if it works for those then why not make a wipe out of it.

Wikipedia says "White vinegar is often used as a household cleaning agent. Because it is acidic, it can dissolve mineral deposits from glass, coffee makers, and other smooth surfaces. For most uses dilution with water is recommended for safety and to avoid damaging the surfaces being cleaned.

Recently, vinegar has been marketed as a green solution for many household cleaning problems. For example, vinegar has been cited recently as an eco-friendly urine cleaner for pets and as a weed killer."

So between my love of vinegar and essential oils I made these awesome cleaning wipes! Happy Cleaning!

Puffy Braid Video

This way and That way pigtails

This one started off as just a back and forth headband but then spawned into somethings so much more!

Start by combing the hair off to one side. Make a small pony tail to the side (for the first part use the top hair only)
For the second row do the same thing going in the opposite direction.
The 3rd row you go the same direction as the first, add all the lower hair into a half pigtail.
For the left side take the hair that's down and pull that into a pigtail along with your pony tail on that side.

(she was too wiggly to get a good picture of the left side but you can kind of get the idea here)

Another Baby Pig Tail

It's been too long since I've posted a hair do! I did this one on Maddie today. She was so excited to have her picture done again. She went right to get the camera and stood by the wall waiting.

I don't have step by step instructions on this one but it's very easy. I parted her hair and pulled the bangs to one side, put the bangs into an elastic and pulled that into the pigtail (the same method for the puffy braids)

She wouldn't let me get a picture of the back so I told her to stand like she was in time out. I forgot that for a baby this age they don't know the difference of "you're in trouble" and "stand like you're in trouble" Love those pouty lips! Can you tell she has a HUGE attitude?!!

Her hair is still not long enough for full pigtails so we just did half piggies. (her hair is sssooo curly!

I can't wait till she gets older! This is what her sisters hair looks like! I think hers will be the same.

Upcycled Jeans 2: Cherry Blossom Hair clips

Remember our upcycled headband? Here's a take 2 on upcycled jeans for accessories! We made these adorable little cherry blossom flowers. They are super easy to make and super cute! You will need a pair of small scissors, needle, thread, and a pearl bead for the center.

Cut out 2 of the smallest flowers. Go here for the pattern.
Sew them together. You can find a video with instructions on sewing here. I attached the bead with a needle and thread, then glued it after for extra hold. Glue the flower onto your clip and you're done!
It would also be adorable with the full flower as seen on the video.

Upcycled Jeans Headband

If you have kids like mine you've got more than enough pairs of jeans with holes in the knees. I normally turn them into cutoffs for the summer but what do you do with the bottom part of those pants?

Here, we take the bottom part of the legs (these were a size 5 kids jeans). Cut about 1 inch off and open in in the middle of the front or back.
Fray both sides and attach it to your headband and trim off the bottom so it's not so bulky around the ears.
Take the bottom hem and cut off about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. Sew along your cut end and pull the thread to ruffle.
Sew a button or other decoration you want in the middle. (this is just to hide the seam in the middle of the flower)
Attach the ruffle flower to the headband.
You can make is stick out
Or fold it down to look like this

Slow Going for a while

It's going to be sort of slow going for a while. My little blonde hair model is my day care girl. She's now down to one day a week for a few weeks and then we're moving. (after we move I should have access to my husband's little nieces though!) So, between the chaos of trying to plan a huge move and everything else it may be a while before my next post. Maybe I'll have to figure out some new mom dos!

So, this isn't goodbye, just more of a see ya later!

Did you know that if your computer has a virus and you connect your camera you can get it onto the camera? I learned that the hard way! Last week my computer was running sort of funny so I ran the scan and had a few viruses on it. Got the computer cleaned up but now I can't use the camera! So now every time I insert the memory stick or try to plug in my camera my computer freezes up! Annoying! So now I guess I'm going to be getting a new camera, again!

This one turned out to be pretty cute! I did a basic puffy braid but instead of straight parts I used squares/L parts.

Start by parting the hair off to the middle. Take a small square on the top of the head. Make an L part around that to form the next square.

Keep going with your L part.

Now, Section off a square (the L part now goes the opposite way) and pull that into the puffy. I used a clip to hold it the rest of the hair out of the way.

Do one more the same way.

Repeat on the other side. You should still have the back part down.

Pull it all into a pony tail.

Finish it off with a cute flower clip!

Half Double French Braids

This is a relatively easy do. First section off the hair, leave the front sections (the part that will be braided out) and clip back the back section. This just keeps it out of the way. Braid the front parts and secure with elastic. I took half of each pony and pulled them to the back of the head (sorry, I forgot to get a picture of the back) Then we curled it up to add a touch of elegance.

Twisted Pony

Remember These Twists? Z really loved the braided pony I did in her hair last time and wanted something similar. So we twisted the top part only and added it to a pony tail. She loved it and I liked that it's not the same thing we do all the time.

To start, pull the back section into a pony tail. Section off the top part and make your twists. If you need instructions on making the twists you can find them here.
It might take a bit of hairspray if the hair isn't wet enough to hold them in place. As you can see ours are a bit loose, no worries though, you can just tighten them up as you add it to the pony.
There you have it! A simple and elegant "twist" to that plain old pony tail!

Braids and a bun

Ok, first off I'm sure that I've seen this exact hairdo posted somewhere so if you posted it on your blog before (or know who did) please feel free to leave a comment with the link to your original post.

Also, been a busy morning so please excuse the messy breakfast table.

Take the top section of hair and make a part all around. Be sure to pull it into a tight pony tail.
Now, section off the outer part and make into small ponytails all the way around. Be careful to make a straight part and keep them all even.
Keep on going. (I find at this point it's easiest to put the main pony into a hair clip to keep it out of the way)

Make sure you get the underside as well.

Split the pony tails in 2.

Braid it down far enough to connect to the pony tail.

When all braids are done connect them to the pony tail.

Remove the elastics from the tips of the braids and form it into a messy bun.

You might want to spray the bun to keep it looking cute.

Yesterday's do was pretty simple, just a single puffy braid on the top.
As you can see she was more interested in her cup of milk than in having her picture taken.
We did manage to get one side view though!

Sunday Do

Yesterday's Sunday do was a simple hair net! It took us about 10 minutes to do it because she's still so wiggly! I know this one has been done on other blogs as well so I didn't do any step by step instructions on this. Let me know though if you want a video on how to do it.

I don't have instructions on this one. It's just a simple puffy braid. I know this isn't the first blog to post it either! I'm going to try to post a hair do every day! Some times it will just be a quick pic I snapped at the school or store, sometimes it will be something I did!

This is part of the ongoing 2010 blogger challenge to post at least 1 picture every day! (which I think I did 2 days in a row on my family blog before I forgot!) It's really been harder than I thought to remember to take a pic a day!

Anyway, here it is. My Do of the Day!She's getting so big! She's not the 2 month old baby she was when I did my first post! If only these pics showed off her funny personality and how much fun she really is!

Baby Climbers

Here's a very simple, under 5 minute do to spice up those old baby piggies! It actually started as a little headband but I didn't like how it stuck out so I just connected the bottom ponies to the top ones and viola! Baby Climbers!

Fancy Half Up (long Hair)

Here's the longer version of my Fancy Half Up .

Start the same as the shorter version, take the top section and make it into a twist. Secure with a bobby pin then add a barrette for extra hold and to give it the extra bling!

(I know it's too low in this pic but I fixed it! That pic just didn't torn out. You want it at the bottom of the twist)

Take the front sections and flat iron to smooth away any bumps. Twist while pulling back to prevent bumps in the twist.

Pull the first front section UNDER the barrette and pin down on the opposite side.

The second section sounds tricky but it's not. You're going to twist it the same as the first but instead of going under you want to go OVER, then pull it under the first twist. The pics a bit fuzzy but you can see that I am using my fingers to pull it under the first twist section. Pin it in place.
Make sure that the twists don't cover up your barrette. Use a little spray to keep it in place.
Sorry, no front view of this one. I couldn't get a front pic of myself that I liked. It's about the same as the Short Version.

Fancy Half Up (short hair version)

Start by making a small pony on top.

Twist it in the back and lift to give it extra body.

Notice I have 2 small bobby pins holing it up.

Take the side sections, twist them and connect them to the back with a bobby pin.

Use a hair bow or barrette to hold it all in place.

Climbing Braided Headband and a Pony

Start by sectioning off the front portion of hair. You can use a hair band or a clip to keep it out of the way.

Notice the hair on the side is down.
Again, section the front off into 2 sections. I used a side part, sectioning off each side of the part separately.
Braid the sides starting from the bottom going up. It's easiest to have her tilt her head to make the climber braid easier.
Now we're going to take each braid and cross them.
Notice here we have green on top and pink on the bottom.
Cross again (pink on top and green on the bottom now)
Continue to twist till all the braid reaches the pony tail. I did 3 twists.
Connect the braids to the pony tail.
Finish it off with a messy bun.

A family close to where I live has just lost their home due to a fire. Not only is this fire a devastating loss to the family but they lost a 9 year old child as well due to complications of the H1N1 virus just before Halloween. The mother had mentioned that all the kids Christmas gifts have also been lost in the fire. Their two children, ages 4 (girl) and 13 (boy) were home at the time but managed to escape unharmed.

Easy Up!

Here's another very easy, elegant updo.

Start with a pony tail making sure that the hair is smooth and there's no bumps.
Next, flip the pony tail into an upside down topsy tail.
Smooth the hair down over the topsy.
Secure with a clip.
If the hair is long enough curl the hair that is coming down from the clip.
And there you have it.
This is one that is perfect for any age. I actually do this on myself for church!

Simply Elegant

This is probably one of the easiest dos here! I've seen it around in the malls and even on commercials this holiday season. I think it probably looks best with the hair curled but Zay really protested the flat iron this morning so we left it straight.

Make sort of a slanted part to the side.
Pull all the hair off of just one side into a pony tail.
Make sure you leave the rest down.
That's it. It's that simple!
And as you can see this works great for babies too! Look hoe curly Maddie's hair has gotten!

How to make a messy bun

There's so many different ways to make a messy bun. Here's how I do mine.

Twisty Braids with Messy Buns

Today's do is a twisty braid with 2 messy buns in the back.

Make your rope braid just to the ear. Gather the hair from the bottom only.

For this do I made an "s part", just draw an s line all the way down. I find it's best to put one half of the hair into a pig tail while you are styling the other side, that way you don't mess up your part while styling. Once you have the braid all done connect it into a pig tail.

Make each pig tail into a messy bun.

Total time should be 10 to 15 minutes.

How to make a straight part

We all know that the part can either make or break a great hair do but sometimes making a straight part down the middle is rather difficult. I prefer to take it in steps, doing the part in small sections at a time.

Lady Bug Hair

Maddie is going as a lady bug this year and what's cuter than a ladybug with little antennas? Maddie WILL NOT wear antennas so I did her hair into them! Very simple, just make 2 quarter pigs on top and stick them straight up! (I just used water to hold them up, a glitter gel would be cute if the baby isn't going to be eating her hair) This is best on short hair.

(forgive my parts, we're not used to morning kindergarten so I just threw it all together!)

Princess Hair

Today was the Kindergarten Halloween party. I saw this girl and just HAD to get pics of her hair! It was just too cute to pass up!

Start by making a pony tail on the top (leave the front and sides down)
Twist the top pony tail up and wrap it around into a cinnamon roll type bun.
Twist up the sides and pin down with bobby pins.

Curl up the back
And there you have the perfect princess do! Isn't she just adorable!

Braided Flower Girl

I've had this big obsession with braids lately. I've gotten pretty good at it again though I still need a ton of practice! (especially on the fancy ones that you have to turn them like these!)

To start a braided Flower Girl do you want to start by making 5 equal ponytails on the top of the head. The placement is totally up to you whether to start with a middle part or put the top petal in the middle of the head.
When you're ready to start braiding make an L part in the section. The L is where you are going to turn the braid. Leave about 1 inch of hair at the bottom of the L. Braid each one into a flower petal. When you're going around the L you want to take the hair from the outside only. That will allow you to turn it without the braid getting all messed up. Here's another view of them all braided together.
Pull all the braids back into a hairband. Form that into a bun. Slightly curl out the wispy ends of the flower. You can always tuck them under if you don't like all the extra fluff covering the flowers. The side views.

Dry skin care

Ok, I know this isn't exactly hair related but I thought it was worth passing along.

As a kid I had terrible eczema, now my kids have it too. Like most people I sort of outgrew the rashes. I now just get terribly dry patches all over (especially on the back of my shoulder where I can't reach it to put lotion!)

I have recently found a product that is already in most pantries that is a great defense against even my driest skin!

I've been using honey as a facial for the past year now and was recently reading about the benefits of honey on the skin. Not only is honey anit-bacterial and anti-fungal, it also acts as a protective barrier for the skin locking essential moisture in and the contanimants and free-radicals out.

What I do is just take a cup of honey in the shower with me (about 1/4 cup is all you need) after your shower just rub it all over your body. You can be wet or dry, it is pretty hard to rub into dry skin though, rinse off, no need for soap after. You can follow up with lotion if needed.

For the bath, just add about 2 to 3 tbs of hones to the bath water and soak in it. Again, no need to rinse off after.

Twisted!

This hair do is all about the twists! Start by parting off the top section of hair. Your going to divide that into triangle sections. Hold the hair straight up and twist it. Each twist should go toward the thickest part of the triangle. Up can use hairbands or bobby pins to hold the twists. (bobby pins may hold it tighter.)

Back view. We have all but about 2 to 3 inches of hair all around the head up in the twists.
Other side. Every twist should go the opposite direction.
Now, take the rest of the hair, along with the ponies from the top twists, and twist them into a rope braid.
Connect the rope braids from both sides.

Twist the pony tail into another rope braid.
Now, you're going to twist that up sort of like a topsy tail.
Take a bobby pin (or 2) and pin it up so it doesn't fall out.

Start off with a middle part.
At the end of the part your going to take about an inch of hair.
Notice the hair in the back is not included in the braid at this time. Make an inside out braid going the face collecting from the outside only. Continue on the outside only till you get to the ears.
Now that you've got all the hair to the ears, switch and take the hair from the back only. Braid it out to the end. Do the other side just the same.
Here's a front view so far.
And a top view. Are yous tarting to see the heart coming through yet?
From here we went and curled her hair in the back.
Now, take the 2 braids and connect them.

Help for dry, dull hair!

Every woman that styles with heat and products knows the damage that it can cost. But did you know that you can easily reverse some of that damage at home, for a minimal cost?

Here's a recipe that I have changed a bit and perfected over the years that can brink a shine back to even the dryest hair!

You will need an avocado, a small can of coconut milk, and oil (about 1 tbs). For the oil I use a blend of carrot seed, pomegranate, cranberry seed and jojoba oil. But if you don't have all those on hand (which I'm pretty sure most people don't) you can use olive oil (the same olive oil that you already use with cooking!) Just a plain avocado will also be very moisturizing.

Stick it all in the blender and mix it up till smooth (you don't want chunks in your hair)

(the color normally is a little fresher but I had it setting out for a while before I thought to get the pic)

Just smear it all over your hair and into your scalp. You can put plastic wrap or a grocery bad over your hair to keep it from dripping.

This recipe made about 1 1/2 cups and I used it all in my hair. (My hair is just below my armpits) You want to use enough to coat all your hair and scalp, I don't that that you can put too much!

Leave it on your hair for about 15 to 20 minutes, just don't let it dry out or it's a little harder to wash out. Then wash your hair like normal. That's it. You may smell like guacamole for a few hours but your hair will love you for it!

Funky Spunky Messy Tessy

Za Has been asking me to do "something crazy" in her hair. She's a hair puller, so she was very happy with this because she can pull at her hair all she wants and she can't mess it up!

Normally, on any hair do you want to start with clean parts. If your parts are messy your do will look messy too. Sometimes though, you want that messy look so you want uneven parts. For uneven parts I find it's best to part with your fingers! (an usual no-no!)

Slightly dampen the hair, while we want a messy look we don't want the elastics to tangle in the hair. Damp hair doesn't tangle as much as dry hair. Brush out tangles.

To make the pony tails stand up you want to pull the hair straight up while putting in the elastics.

With your fingers pull up one small pony at the top of the head.

Work your way all around the top of the head, no rhyme or reason to the placement of the ponies. A you can see I added the front ponies to a side one the keep them out of her face.

Messy Buns All Around

Messy buns can be a lot of fun! You can use anywhere from dressing up a pony tail to making a formal up do! This one would be a great Easter do or even a flower girl do! Best of all, this do is a lot easier than it looks to!

Start by making pony tails all around. For these you want to brush the hair from the center out and make the parts from the center of the head and work your way out.
Next, take each pony and make it into a messy bun.

Now you're going to take a ton of bobby pins and pin down those buns so that they are not just sticking out.
Now add flowers for decoration.

And there you have it! Told you it was pretty easy!

Fancy Waterspout (with more hair!)

Sorry it's been a while since the last post. Between Maddie being pretty sick for a week, her birthday, her being sick again and day care kids, it's been pretty crazy around here!

Today we have Maddie's Fancy Water Spout on Zay. I wanted to post it again on an older child with longer hair so that you can see it really is a do that just about anyone can wear! For instructions on this one you can go here.

Head Band Hold Down

Zay has been asking me for a while to just do a simple head band so today we did. Well, ok, it's not just a head band but now we are both happy with it. You may remember Girly Do's Head Band Hold Down that she posted a while ago. This is our version of it.

We made 5 pony tails on the top, put the head band over, and connected them with the hair just behind the head band.

Now, to keep the head band from slipping off the back of the head you want to keep a small amount out of the head band,
then take a small omount from the band and connect them into a pony.

Twist it under to keep it from sticking out through the hair.

Style, and you're all done!

Twisty Braids into Pony tail

Yesterday I did this one in my day care girl's hair. It was sort of a crazy day so we didn't get the step by steps so I'll explain the best I can. It's a lot easier than it looks.

Start by making a 5 pony head band, twist each one under and braid it. Pull it all back into a pony tail. That's it!

To keep the pony tail smooth I put that into an elastic then added the braids after with a second hair band.

Braided Pig Tails

Ok, you may have noticed by now I have an obsession with both braids, pig tails, and having more than 1 way to dress up a single hair do!

Remember our braided pig tails and braids we did a while ago? Well, here's another spin off!

You'll have to bear with explanations only on the first few steps, I accidentally deleted a few pics!

Start by making a straight part down the middle. When ever doing any kind of braid or pig tail, whatever, I like to pull one half into a pig tail while doing to other side to keep the part from getting messed up.

Take a small section every inch or so and braid it.

Take the braids and hold them off to one side while you form the pig tails. (this way you can get a smooth pony without any bumps)

Connect all the braids into the pigtails
It takes a few minutes with all the little braids but it's a great way to dress up any old pig tails!

Not into just pig tails? Try this one instead? This also works great in a puffy braid!

It's been a long hard week so I haven't been able to do any hair do's, should have more next week.

Anyway, My precious Maddie Girl turned 1 on Wednesday! She's been a pretty sick baby all week but we did at least make her a cake yesterday. She didn't really feel like eating much of it but I got a few pics anyway. (we had to postpone her party till next weekend so then I'll get some good b-day pics)

Anyway, here's a few pics of her day, the fun parts anyway.

Here's her cake that I made for her. Certainly not my best work but she still liked it (at least her brothers thought it was perfect for her)

Connecty Rubber Bands into Pig Tails

Ok, this one probably looks more complicated than it really is. I'll try my best to explain it but you'll really have to follow the pics on this one. I guess the best tip I can give is the front ponies are squares, the middle triangles, and the bottom are squares again.

Start with 3 pony tails, leave the bottom section by the ears down. (as if you're going to make 5 pony tails I guess)

Take the top pony and split it in 3.

Next, you're going to add another section in the middle of the front ones, adding half of each pony and one more down the middle using the middle section from the middle pony.

here's a side view of what it should look like now.

Pull up the rest of the hair on the bottom front. Again, connect only half of the connecting pony

Make 2 small squares and conntct the back ponies, leave the front one that you just made out.

Take the rest into pig tails.

Fancy Half Pony

I've been on a creative streak this week! Remember our Fancy Water Spout? Today's do is a variation from that.

We started by sectioning of 3 ponies, one in the front and one on each side.

Next, we took each of those ponies and made them into 1 puffy braid/ climber.
She's so wiggly this morning that this is the only good pic I could get of this step, but you do the same thing on each side and up front. (I just took a small amount of hair from the part that was for the middle pony.)

Then we took the remaining hair on the top and connected everything into that!

Half Pony with a twist!

Start by making a top ponytail.

Pull the hair from the sides only leaving the back down.

Secure with elastic.
I didn't like how it was sticking out so I put in a little twist (or topsy tail) in the bottom pony.
And there you have it!
Very simple, easy and takes less than 5 minutes!

Shoe Lace Piggies

This is Za, my little day care girl. Yesterday we did my double shoe lace piggies.

Now, you may remember we've posted a few different options for this already. We have the baby shoe lace piggies, and the this one here. Today, we're doing a 3rd option for the same thing!

You're going to make a part down the middle.

Make your first pony as close to the middle of the head as you can.

For the second set you want to make the part even with the hair band.

3rd row is all in the middle. (one pony)

4th row is split again.
Repeat down the other side.

Now, you can leave it down like this and it looks adorable, or you can do what we did and pull it up into pigtails!

Quarter Pigs

Now that Maddie is FINALLY started to get some length to her baby hair I'm going to start reposting some of the baby do's.

Today we're reposting the quarter pig tails.

Very simple, you need 2 hairbands (preferable the silicone elastics because they hold better in baby hair)

Make a part down the middle and around the sides of the head (sorry, I forgot of pic of that but it's really easy)

Next make your pig tails and brush out the rest of the hair and you're done! An easy less than 5 minute do!And, so you can see just how much hair she really has I put up a pic of her with her hair down. As you can see she doesn't have really long hair at all, it's finally down to the bottom of her ears!

Positive Day

Ok, so I'll get in on this too. If you're reading this blog I'm pretty sure that you've already seen the posts by Babes in Hair Land and Girly Do's , But, if you haven't this is where Positive Day got it's start.

Well, right now I certainly have a lot to be positive about. I know this blog is for hair and I do try to keep it seperate from family issues and happenings, I have started a line of all natural lotions and perfumes. I had a store ask for samples of my products! It's not a huge nation wide chain but this store is in 6 states and has almost 30 locations! This would be a huge deal to me! I am sure that when they get the samples and see the quality and care I put into every bottle of lotion they will put them in the stores!

I am also very greatful for my kids. I have 3 wonderful boys and a precious daughter who means everything to me! I love my boys dearly but having a girl is just so much fun. She's just starting to walk, will be turning 1 in less than 2 weeks and is just so stinking adorable!

Next month my oldest will be going into second grade and my second in Kindergarten.

I have a lot of friends in my neighborhood, live very close to a wonderful park, and within a few hours of some of the country's most beautiful national parks.

I am very greatful for my family's health. My kids all LOVE thier vegies! It's normally the meats that I have to fight them to eat! They know at a young age the importance of eating healthy foods and geting good exercize.

Right now though, most importantly, I still have my home! (because of a terrible mortgage company we've had a few close calls.) Maybe it's not as nice and fancy as what other prople have, or as I would like it to be, but it's mine! There's nothing a few plants outside and a few gallons of paint can't fix!

I can't end this post without mentioning my husband either. He really is a wonderful man and father.

Ok, so for the challenge, My favorite (for a baby) is the side pony and the water spout. You'll have to forgive my photography today because Maddie is just have a traumatic time this week! You see, she's being weaned and is not doing very well with it. This is day 2 and she is still refusing a bottle but at least she is eating more foods! I'm sure she'll get over it by the end of the week (I hope anyway!) but she's just not giving it a good start!

Anyway, she's basically got it in her head that if she can't nurse then she won't let me do her hair, or get good pics! Now back to the do's.

First we have a side top pony.
You can also twist it under like this.
Then there's the waterspout option.

My favorite option on the water spout though is to half way pull through the last loop on the pony and fan it out like this:

Hair Do Challenge!

We're going to start a hair do challenge. Every week I will give you a hair do assignment, when completed just email the pics and any explanations if needed and I'll post them!

The challenge for this week is to see how many different do's you can come up with using only 1 pony tail. I'll post my favorite baby do's later today but I'd love to see what everyone else can come up with!

Curl Slime!

Ok, for those of you who don't know me personally I am big into natural products right now. All 4 of my children have severe eczema, the oldest child I have been told may be more psoriasis rather than eczema. Myself, I am very limited to the commercial products that I can use due to allergies to the ingredients. So, when ever I recommend a products, it's something that I would and do use on myself and my kids.

Over the past few months I have actually been making my own lotions, all natural. You can find them here. Because of those lotions (alone with natural soaps) all my kids, even the oldest, finally have that baby smooth skin!

So, now to the curl slime. I call it slime because, well, it looks like slime! Now, before you get all grossed out by the idea of using Flax slime in your, or your child's, hair you've gotta try it!

You need: Flax Seed, you can get it at just about any food store.
Boil 1/4 cup flax seed with 1 cup water till it's nice and slimy
See the slime oozing off the spatula?

Drain

Use the slimy juice as a curl gel! It fells no slimier than putting hair gel in wet hair.

Does need to be stored in the refrigerator. Should be able to be stored for about 3 to 4 days.

Maddie's big brother has BIG curls! This is what he looks like with nothing in them.
We've tried using curling products but they actually made his curls even more unmanageable! We've just been adding water but when it dies this is what it goes back to.

After adding just a small amount of Flax Slime to his dry hair this is what we get
And the best part is that his curls stay like this all day (until his nap that is).

I've even been using it on myself lately because I have semi curly hair (the hairs on the top of my head are straighter while the hairs underneath are more curly) and I LOVE it! I now use it every day and don't feel like I have to pull it back to go out.

Also THERE'S NO CHEMICAL BUILD UP! If I go to sleep with it in I wake up to my hair actually softer than it was the day before!

Here's another cute baby do. I got this idea from the last baby do we posted.

To start, make a part from ear to ear.
Pull it into 2 water spouts on the top of the head. Go here for instructions.

(I know this sort of looks bad, yeah, she's by the edge but I'm right behind her. See my feet?)
Notice her mess? That's how I keep her entertained while I do her hair. Needless to say, I no longer sort the hair bands by color and size.
And here's her pretty smile!
You can either do both water spouts even in the middle or spice it up by doing it on the side this hers.

Another Baby Do!

I can't come up with a good name for this one. It's pretty simple, just a bunch of water spouts! I did 2 water spouts with the top of the head and one on each side. Very simple. Took about 5 minutes on my wiggly baby. I did use the comb to make the parts straight but she's to wiggly that she had the parts messed up before I could even get the elastics in!

Here's the best pics I could get! She's so fast i had to put her in her crib to contain her enough to get a few shots!

My TIP is to use Detangler Spray ALWAYS!! The days I forget her hair is So hard to brush out and also gets very frizzy and lots of stray hairs when I do any kind of do!!

And here's her darling do that she did on her daughter! Very cute Amber! Love the details with the braids!

My neighbors little girl came over for me to play with her hair again. Remember this one? Well, I wanted to show you how to do it on an older child.

Today I have take one on this!

You're going to do it the same way as you do this one. You can either use just the hair on the top as we did, or all the hair in the front.

Take the first section of hair and make your first pony. (sorry for the fuzz)

Now you're going to split that pony in 2 and then make a part right in the middle of the pony.

Make 2 sections and make them into small ponies.

Now, you're going to make 1 section again and bring the 2 ponies into it.

End it off with one more set of 2. Now you can either leave it down like this or keep on going! :-)

Make a straight part down the rest of the head. (be sure to line the part with the middle of the ponies) and pull them into low piggies.

Choice of Mary Jane or spots

Big gerger daisy and headband

Choice of my new very adorable very frilly, very girly headband (don't worry, you can trim the frill to your liking) and 1 of the above flowers or bows, or 3 flower or bow sets.

Head Band Instruction

Supplies Needed: Tulle, sheer ribbon. For the tulle I used an 18 inch wide strip. If you use the 6 inch wide rolls just use 2 or 3 strips

Braid the tulle and ribbon together.
Tie it off to the size of the head.

For decoration I wrapped the extra tulle around my hand
Then tied it off with the ribbon

Add a few more strips of ribbon (I used a pen to push it under the tied ribbon) Tie it down so it doesn't pull off.

Then you can leave it like this or cut the puff to the size you want!
